Electric Box Panels

Electrical Box Panel Upgrade, Installations and Breaker Replacement

Your electric panel ensures your building’s electrical safety.

The breakers inside the panel are designed to guard your electrical system against circuit overload, and short circuits. When an overload occurs, a breaker protects you by tripping and shutting down the power to that circuit. However, if the panel or breakers are not operating properly, the risk of fire becomes imminent.

Westridge Electric installs the highest quality panels

Our Cutler Hammer CH series panels are one of the only copper bussed panels you can install and we offer a lifetime warranty. Most other panels on the market today are aluminum based instead of copper, making them more susceptible to problems.

Reasons You May Need a Panel Replacement/Upgrade

      1. You need more room in your existing panel to add circuits.
Your panel is older than the manufacturer’s recommended lifespan. (This is 20 years for most panels.)
      2. Panels that are out-dated and no longer manufactured include FPE, Zinsco, Nova, Sylvania, Commander, Bull Dog, ITE, CEB, Crouse Hinds.
      3. Other panels that may be out-dated but still manufactured today include those made by Cutler Hammer, Siemens, Square D, and GE (General Electric). Check your panel for the manufacture date.
      4. Your panel is showing signs of imminent failure.
      5. Lights flickering throughout your home or business.
      6. Appliances/electronics not lasting as long as they should
      7. Discoloured wires (turning brown or black).
      8. Your panel is already failing.
      9. Breakers not tripping under a fault condition
      10. Burning of wires or breakers
      11. Burning, Corrosion, or discolouring of bus bars (this is the central part of your panel where the breakers plug in)
      12. Smoke coming out of your panel.
      13. Any arcing or sparking.
      14. The smell of something burning coming from your panel.
      15. Any overheating (the breakers or panel board are hot to touch).
      16. A sizzling sound.
      17. You have no power to parts or all of your building.
      18. You have an unsafe Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) panel, which should be replaced immediately.

Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) panels

If your building was built between 1950 and 1990 and is equipped with a Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) panel with Stab-Lok circuit breakers, you run a significant risk of breaker malfunction and fire.

Multiple tests done on the breakers since the 1980s have proven that one in four Stab-Lok breakers will be defective and not properly trip.

In 1983, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) closed its two-year investigation and felt it impossible to create a product recall at the time because of budget issues, even as Federal Pacific panels and breakers continued to be installed in millions of buildings that to this day still run the risk of an electrical fire. An estimated 2,800 fires each year directly result from Federal Pacific panel breaker malfunction. For more information on FPR panels visit www.ismypanelsafe.com

Federal Pacific Electric has been out of business for many years, but the danger and damage caused by their negligence continues.

Find Out if You Have Federal Pacific Panel

If you own or rent a building built between 1950 and 1990, check your breaker box. A Federal Pacific panel will usually have its name or logo on the front cover. Inside, you will find the name Stab-Lok printed near the center or the side of the panel. The intact breakers will have the signature red strip that runs across the front.
